King's Coronation Blackpool

Blackpool has revealed full details of a spectacular programme of free family entertainment to mark the King’s Coronation.

The event, which will take place on Sunday 7 May, includes a magnificent parade of heritage trams, an afternoon of top-quality live entertainment featuring a host of performers, an outdoor picnic area, and a free screening of the Coronation concert from Windsor Castle.

Blackpool will stage its own glittering royal finale with a bespoke, synchronised light show on central promenade and The Blackpool Tower.

King's Coronation Celebrations Blackpool

The Heritage Tram Parade will see 11 trams from the restored heritage collection travel in convoy from the Pleasure Beach to Little Bispham. The convoy, which sets off at 2.15pm, will pause at the Tower Festival Headland for a unique opportunity to capture some of the finest heritage trams in the world.

From 3pm onwards, people can bring a picnic, relax, and take advantage of an al fresco dining area opposite The Blackpool Tower for The Big Coronation Lunch, or take advantage of the on-site food huts serving a wide variety of hot and cold food.

There will be free live entertainment throughout the afternoon, hosted by Blackpool’s very own Hayley Kay.

From 8pm, the party will continue with a free live screening of the Coronation Concert from Windsor Castle. The concert will be streamed on to a giant screen on the Tower Festival Headland with specially-lit bespoke illuminations for the Coronation. The finale to Blackpool’s day of celebration will see an interactive light show on the Promenade and The Blackpool Tower.

Heritage Tram Parade

2.15pm start

The parade will see 11 trams from the heritage fleet travel in convoy from the Pleasure Beach to Little Bispham. The convoy, which sets off at 2.15pm, will pause at the Tower Festival Headland for a unique photo opportunity.

Although the historic trams were officially “retired” when new European-style trams were brought into service on the seafront route in 2012, a number of them were retained and thanks to an army of volunteers have been brought back into regular use. They now form one of the finest heritage fleets in the world.

The trams will be carrying hundreds of passengers with some very special guests including mascots from Blackpool attractions.

The Big Comedy Lunch

3-7pm

The chart-topping singer Nicki French is headlining a programme of free entertainment on Blackpool seafront as part of the resort’s Kings Coronation celebrations.

Between 3pm and 7pm, people will be able to relax at The Big Comedy Picnic, with face painters and live entertainment including Nicki French, Leanne Jones, Betty Legs Diamond, Angels Elite, Rob King, Chloe Byrne, Harry Moulding, Scott Gallagher,  Johnny Wright, Ryan Cregan and Blackpool Tower Circus Legends, Mooky and Mr Boo

Windsor Castle Concert

8pm

From 8pm, the party will continue with a free live screening of the Coronation Concert from Windsor Castle. The concert will be streamed on to a screen on the Tower Festival Headland with specially-lit bespoke illuminations for the Coronation.

The finale to Blackpool’s day of celebration will see the town taking part in Lighting Up The Nation, as ten iconic locations across the country form the centrepiece of the event being broadcast live from Windows Castle. A choreographed light show will envelope central promenade and The Blackpool Tower, as guests join in the party with interactive light up wristbands.

Kings Coronation Celebrations

The event is being led by Blackpool’s newly-established Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) working alongside partners including VisitBlackpool, Blackpool Transport and Blackpool Council.

As the country celebrates the King Charles III coronation, Blackpool’s celebrations were a memorable day.

As thousands lined the promenade from The Pleasure to North Pier to experience the unique Heritage Tram Parade, visitors were reserving their spot on the comedy carpet for the Big Comedy lunch. Hundreds brought picnics, chairs and tables, whilst many took advantage of the picnic benches, seating and deckchairs provided free of charge.

Blackpool shone brightly taking part in the Lighting Up The Nation event as part of the Windsor Concert.
